A thirteen year-old boy named Danny must leave his home, school, friends and everything else he was brought up with to escape his abusive father. In order to keep the family safe, his mother fights to keep his father in jail. When the court allows the release of his father, Danny, along with his mother and sister flee to another city and begin a new life with new identities. Danny still hopes to move back with his father and become a happy family, and pretend everything was just a bad dream. As his mother struggles to support them, Danny is furious with her for forcing him to leave everyone and everything he loves behind and blames her for everything. With this anger within him, he becomes one of the school bullies and begins smoking and drinking. However, a young girl named Nixxie changes the way how Danny feels about his new life.
